Functional medicine is a science-based approach to healthcare that evaluates each patient’s unique bio-chemistry and tailors integrative treatments to restore physiological, psychological, and structural balance, cure and prevent illness, and promote wellness.
Generally, after only two or three infusions, patients experience symptom improvement.
Functional medicine practitioners will spend time with patients, listen to their histories, and examine the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that may influence long-term health. Advanced diagnostics further aid our clinicians to get to the root cause of illness so the best treatments can be utilized. These may include diet, exercise, herbal/nutritional, hormonal, mind/body and pharmaceutical therapies.
Generally, office visits are covered by insurance. Most lab/diagnostic tests are covered, with some companies requiring a co-pay. Iron infusions are generally covered; other IV therapies usually are not. Certain prescriptions (compounded medications) may have limited coverage, but are generally not cost-prohibitive.
Some prescriptions are listed as “controlled substances,” which require you to physically visit your provider every six months. We’re not able to approve renewals over the phone. You must schedule an appointment to make sure your diagnosis hasn’t changed and that this prescription is still appropriate to improving your health.
We have many supplements available in the RestorePDX clinic. Fullscript, our online dispensary, offers most of the supplements we recommend. For over-the-counter purchase, Pharmaca is a local pharmacy and high quality supplement retailer that sells most of the brands we recommend.
We work with a number of specialized pharmacies that provide the best quality control, products and service for your prescriptions. Their process requires entering your prescription into their system, preparing the formula, packing and shipping. This can take up to five working days.
Please contact the compounding pharmacy before you’re down to a week’s supply to be sure you receive your refill before you run out. (RestorePDX does not have its own pharmacy, and we have no way to speed this process at our partner pharmacies.)
When your pharmacy indicates you are out of refills, please first ask them for additional refills. If you are on a controlled substance and you have been seen in the clinic within six months, refills will be authorized.
